The FDA has not yet commented on the report, but the agency has previously stated that lead levels in food should be as low as reasonably achievable.

Exposure to lead, even at low levels, can have serious health consequences, particularly for children. Lead can damage the brain and nervous system, and it has been linked to learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and other health issues.

Consumers who have purchased any of the affected cinnamon or spice products are advised to discard them immediately. They should also wash their hands thoroughly after handling the products.

For more information on lead in food, consumers can visit the FDA's website or the Consumer Reports website.
