The Stonewall Riots and the Birth of Pride
Pride Month is celebrated in the month of June as that was the month when the Stonewall riots took place. The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous demonstrations by members of the LGBTQ+ community in response to a police raid on the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969. The riots are widely considered to be the catalyst for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement.
